Davene is such a great part of Team D2R. Here story is so inspirational! She committed to making this change in her life and made it happen and her results were ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! She has done P90X, Insanity, and now P90X2! What I love about her transformation video is she actually tells her story instead of typing out the story. Be ready to be inspired and maybe even tear up a bit. Davene has since become a coach to pay it forward in helping others achieve their goals with health and fitness. She is changing lives! Way to go Davene!

Here is Davene’s story in her own words:

For as long as I can remember I’ve struggled with my weight and image which has caused me to battle intense self-esteem issues. I was never comfortable in my clothes and my weight fluctuated more than the temperature. The past several years have been a personal journey to accept who I am while trying to approach a healthier body and toned physique.

In high school I weighed over 200 pounds and fought with programs that have never worked for me. From starving myself with Slim Fast and diet pills to counting calories and wasting time and money with personal trainers, I have tried numerous programs all of which seem to explode in my face with little results. I’ve even gone as far as trying a “cleanse” where I dieted on only a cayenne pepper and lemon water concoction for 10 days straight!

The weight would immediately return, but I would never fully give up hope.

The beginning of 2011 was my lowest of low when I saw how much time had gone by which I would never be able to get back. I knew if I didn’t make a change with my health right then, then I would be hurting later in life.

In March of 2011 I started to teach myself how to truly eat. I was sick of eating prepared meals completely saturated with sodium and other unpronounceable ingredients that left me hungry and dissatisfied. An article my uncle sent me on the on healing the body with a plant based diet, helped spur this radical new lifestyle.

I had never really known how to truly take care of my body I started surrounding myself with books on the importance of using whole and organic foods to nourish the body .It took time for my mind and body to adjust to such a significant change, but within months I felt a difference and truly fell in love with my new lifestyle. I couldn’t get enough knowledge of using food as medicine. I found a passion that I never knew existed.

Come July, I felt that something was still missing. This is when I decided to take on P90X. I struggled through it and there were I wasn’t as dedicated as I should have been, but I pushed though. By the end of 90 days I was shocked how far I had come and truly was in the best shape of my life. From there I moved on to Insanity and instantly became addicted. It was hard and it pushed me harder than I had ever gone before, but after every workout I felt empowered which helped me to keep going. I have to say that I am truly blessed that I have found something that works. My life has truly been changed and some days I don’t even recognize myself. It’s crazy to look at old pictures and think of the person that once was. This journey has been so healing for me in many ways!

The standard American diet today is full of acid forming foods. These foods can have a serious effect on your body. By eating too many acid forming foods and not enough alkaline foods to balance it out, our body is forced to compensate and draw essential minerals from our body to keep our blood slightly alkaline. This is a pretty serious issue! I learned a lot from this video clip and it really puts it into perspective . Eating a diet of primarily acid forming foods can cause disease and serious health issues. This video also explains how diet sodas can actually cause you to GAIN weight even though they are calorie free!

Chris M. has been a fantastic member of Team D2R! I love his motivating spirit and willingness to help others. He knows how to Bring It with such intensity and dedication. He is an inspiration for us all! Chris joined the team last Spring, completed only 30 days due to a small medical issue, but got back on track in November when he joined one of our Power 90 Challenge Groups! He achieved absolutely phenomenal results! He is now bringing it harder than ever in one of our P90X Challenge Groups! Congrats to you for your success Chris!

Chris’s Story:

I remember being skinny when I was very young and my mother being concerned about it because I had a heart murmur. I remember making a concentrated effort to always finish my plate for her. As I grew older the heart murmur went away and I was very active. I played a variety of sports and was quite good at them until I started going to University. Then for some strange reason, I stopped participating in sports and I just concentrated on my studies and going out on the weekends. I gained a little bit of weight over this period and although it bothered me, I never really considered it to be a real problem at the time.

After school was finished, I ended up working in an office doing engineering so my amount of physical activity decreased even more, and by making some very poor food choices like most single guys do, I slowly gained 4-5 lbs a year. When I got married in 2000, I was already about 40 lbs. overweight and although I wasn’t eating out as much as I used to, my wife was unfortunately a very good cook. She showed me her love by giving me even more food. It wasn’t her fault at all, she was used to feeding 3 hungry brothers and I was unfortunately trained to clean my plate. By 2011, I had ballooned to over 250 lbs. and I felt horrible. I thought that I might have become lactose intolerant or maybe it was gluten intolerance. There had to be a reason for my poor health other than the obvious reason. I started feeling dizzy at times and getting strange leg cramps. I was terrified! My family has a history of diabetes and heart attacks. I thought that I was surely not far behind on getting one or both of these diseases. Every year I would tell myself the same things. This year I will start exercising and I will get in shape. I will only eat healthy food. I’ll start next week, no next month, New Years, after my birthday, next year, maybe in 2010?

Well, finally after 20+ years of failed New Years resolutions and promises not to see another Fat Birthday pass me by, I had almost given up, I was defeated; I ate to feel comforted, which made me overweight and even more depressed. The cycle seemed unbreakable. Then early one day last spring, I saw a P90X commercial with Tony Horton and then I found the Team D2R website and I got back a faint glimmer of hope. I decided that I could do it too! I tried to start Power 90 last spring and had to drop out due to a minor medical issue after about 30 days. However, I was so encouraged by the initial results that I joined a Power 90 Challenge group last November. I gave it everything I had. I did not cheat a single time, I did not miss a single work out, I drove myself relentlessly to do more and lift more every day.

I have made giant leaps and bounds this year beyond what I ever imagined possible. There is nothing extraordinary about me; I am just an average guy. What changed for me was my determination and commitment. Everyone can do exactly the same thing if you set your mind to it and make a REAL commitment. Tell yourself that for the next 90 days; I will not miss a workout; I will not cheat PERIOD on my diet; I will push myself to my limit every day. When you do that, there are NO LIMITS! BRING IT!!!

Hummus Recipe

Hey everyone! We wanted to share with you this amazingly delicious homemade hummus recipe that Tekoa came up with! We substituted the oil with avocado for a more healthy option. This recipe for homemade hummus is PERFECT for dipping veggies in or to put on a really good salad in place of dressing. My favorite is a spinach and quinoa salad with this mixed in. It is definitely a MUST to try.

Hummus Recipe – Roasted Red Pepper & Avocado – Gluten Free, Vegan, Oil Free

This hummus recipe yields 8 servings. Stats per serving: about 120 calories, 6g protein / 14g carbs / 4.5g fat

Ingredients:

1 Red Bell Pepper

2 Cans Garbanzo Beans (Chickpeas) (drained and rinsed)

1 Ripe Avocado

4 Cloves Garlic

Juice From 1 Lemon

1/2 tsp Pink Himalayan Sea Salt

Black Pepper to Taste

Directions

Cut red pepper into quarters, place in baking dish, turn oven to Broil and place peppers in oven for about 15 minutes, turning over halfway through, until they are softened and both sides are slightly dark. When peppers are done, slice into smaller pieced and let them cool for a few minutes in the fridge. Combine all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. Add a spoonful of water if needed to help the mixture blend together. Serve or store in an airtight container in refrigerator…the lemon juice keeps the avocado from browning.

I hope you enjoy this hummus recipe! Tekoa is such a great cook

In January of 2009 Tekoa was laid off from her job only 1 week before we found out she was pregnant. This made finances very tight as my income was barely enough to cover all of our expenses… let alone the cost of a baby on the way. She continued to look for work, but as she progressed in the pregnancy it became harder and harder to find a job. When Alathea was born that September, it was more of a matter of finding a job that would pay enough to cover day care costs and still have enough left over to help. Nothing she found was going to make it worth it and we did not like the idea of having some total stranger raise our daughter at a day care facility! We decided to just make it work with Tekoa staying home. It was very tight and we kept slipping further in debt.

On top of our financial troubles, we were overweight and unhealthy! We needed to be a good example for our daughter. Living like we were and eating what we did, we were NOT being the example she needed. We were both depressed and had zero self confidence. With heart disease in our families, it was very important that we made the change for our daughter and future kids. I also struggled with health issues of my own with Sleep Apnea and Narcolepsy which was such a dangerous situation for me as I would find myself falling asleep at stoplights. Despite our tight finances, we decided to change our lifestyle in the Summer of 2010 when we started Power 90! Little did we know how much our lives would be changed in the upcoming months.

By September 2010 as we had seen some pretty phenomenal results. Our dream of being healthy and fit was always a dream… until we put in the commitment, dedication, and plain ole’ hard work to get to where we are today. Our DREAM became a REALITY with our health and fitness! Our passion for Beachbody and their programs and products grew so great and we saw how people were asking us what we were doing and how we were inspiring them to do something with their own health and fitness. As a result, we grew a passion for helping others with their health and fitness goals and became Team Beachbody coaches! That passion continued to grow more and more as we saw what kind of impact we were having. People coming to us thanking us for adding years to their lives, people who had been in serious states of depression completely turned their lives around, people who never knew how to make this lifestyle change had conquered their weight loss goals. All these stories that we hear from people we have helped makes the time invested worth every second. We had never intended on making this a full time business as I didn’t know that was even possible. As my passion for helping others increased more and more, it just made me wish I could do it full time. I had a NEW DREAM… to become a FULL TIME BEACHBODY COACH!

I set my goal in January of 2011 that I would be a full time coach by early 2012. What would it take? Making goals, staying consistent, remembering my “why”, and always improving myself. I would always work towards my dream and stay focused. Just as I did with my health and fitness, I would do as a coach. My goal was to help as many people as I could. I would sacrifice sleep to make sure that I answered everyone’s emails. I would share with as many people as I could how I changed my life and made sure they understood that they could too and gave them the tools for success. A lot of these people ended up signing up as coaches on our team because they all became passionate for the products as they too were seeing great results and wanted to help others as well.

As time went on I was offered a promotion at work and I TURNED IT DOWN. Why? Because I wanted to focus my time on helping others and this promotion would have consumed even more time. My team had grown so much by that point that I could not stop there. I continued to press forward. I wanted to give my employer at least a month notice, so I put in my resignation notice in mid-February 2012. My last day of my 10 year career was on March 16th! It was perfect timing as we went on vacation the following week on a Team Beachbody coach rewards trip to Atlantis in the Bahamas! The cool part of all this is that we don’t do this for the money. We do this because we get a lot of satisfaction knowing we are making a difference in people’s lives. It will NEVER be about the money for us. This coaching career has given us financial freedom and it was done by simply helping others achieve their goals and lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

This website has a whole new meaning for me. Not only did my health and fitness dreams become a reality, but my financial dreams became a reality as well. I am now focusing all my time helping others get fit, helping other coaches on my team develop as successful coaches and spending more time with my family. I am LIVING THE DREAM! Thank you Beachbody and thank you Team D2R for being a part of our lives!

I am going to begin something new every week called “Inspiration Friday”. Every Friday I will post a transformation from someone from our team so that you may be inspired and motivated to make a change just as they have! First up: Joe “Beast Mode” B!

Joe B. had been a part of Team D2R, but was not very active at first. Then he found a spark… a spark that would change his life! He committed to Power 90 and after the first week, he grew such a passion to make this lifestyle change. Joe’s wife Andrea also made this lifestyle change and started doing Slim in 6 at the same time (and saw AMAZING results I might add). They began to incorporate Shakeology to take their results to the next level. This power couple has made such a positive impact in our Team D2R group on Facebook. They are so positive, inspirational, and motivational in our group so much that you can’t help to be fired up to workout and push yourself even harder! Joe is now part of one of our P90X Challenge groups bringing it harder than ever and Andrea is a part of a Power 90 challenge group. Joe always has is “Beast Mode” switch turned to “on” and brings such an intensity to his workouts. Joe has since become a Team Beachbody Coach so he can help others change their lives just as he has. He will soon begin to build his website www.thirddimensionfitness.com. Way to pay it forward, Joe! I am proud of where you have come buddy!

Check out his Power 90 results video!

Joe’s Story =

My name is Jhomil but I go by Joe. I am a married man with two beautiful children. I currently work as a Visual Information Specialist. With this job, it requires me to be in front of a computer all day. It makes it very difficult for me to remain active. During my younger days, I was very active and so motivated to maintain a healthy lifestyle. But just like anyone, I wanted to settle and have a family of my own. I was in the military for for 14 years. The only thing that kept me within weight standards was the physical fitness tests held semi annually. It’s been close to 3 years since I left the military and I was in worst shape of my life. I weighed in at 216 at 5′ 5″. Which was the heaviest I’ve ever been. I was suffering from major depression and I lost interest in everything. Plenty of times I didn’t even want to leave the house. One morning, I got a dose of reality when I was having trouble buttoning up the top of my shirt and fastening my slacks. I got frustrated because everything around was just reminding me how fat I was. I just knew that I needed to do something right away. That evening I ran into a bunch of YouTube videos that left me inspired to do Power 90. Since then I’ve been doing Power 90 and it led me to an awesome coach and supportive team! I’ve lost a total of 43 lbs. I will never be the same and I don’t ever wanna look back. I can’t believe I was able to achieve what I thought was the impossible for me. There is no better feeling than gaining back your sense of well being. Now it’s time to reach out and help others as a coach. I’m very passionate about it and love helping people out.

Whole Foods vs Processed Foods

So I know we talk about how calorie deficits are what you need to lose weight, but often I hear how people hit plateaus and they don’t understand why. After digging into their nutrition I discover some things that hurt their progress…. processed foods! Not all calories are created equal. The calories you do not want are the calories created or altered by people! It is important to stick with WHOLE FOODS vs processed foods.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when making your food choices:

- Avoid drinking your calories – this would include soda, juice, milk, etc. If you want fruit juice, eat a piece of fruit. It is much healthier for you with the fiber.

- Avoid foods found in boxes. These foods are also very processed. Those pre-packaged dinners are very bad! Crackers, chips, pretzels, and all those boxed or bagged snacks are not good. Also instead of cereal, eat oatmeal with some fruit, or just with some cinnamon and stevia powder (that is the way I like it). Do not get the pre-packaged individual servings of oatmeal… your ingredients should ONLY be oats.

- Avoid store bought protein bars. Try making your own! Check out our recipe here: http://dream-2-reality.com/recipes/homemade-protein-bars/

- Make sure your chicken or fish isn’t pumped with junk. I have seen some pretty nasty chicken you can buy at the store… it may appear fresh, but it may be plumped by them injecting the meat with junk. One way to tell if it is injected is the sodium content in your chicken…it should be very low (less than 100 mg per serving). You should also go with cage free, antibiotic free, etc. I have used Harvestland brand boneless skinless chicken from Wal-Mart. It is the best I have found that doesn’t cost a million bucks

- Buy organic vegetables and fruits if possible. Some things are genetically modified to make them more plump or to make it so the crops aren’t killed when they spray weed killer. I for one do not want to eat chemicals or genetically modified food. If you can’t afford to buy everything organic – check out this list to help you determine the most important items to buy organic based on pesticides: http://www.ewg.org/foodnews/summary/ NOTE – This list has corn as a “clean” item but corn is one of the most genetically modified foods, so you will want to buy that in organic as well. Corn is also not a vegetable either so you should not eat a lot of corn anyway.

- Avoid artificial ingredients and sweeteners – Yes this includes diet soda!! They are toxic! Powdered stevia is a natural plant based sweetener derived from the stevia plant.

- Stay away from all those products at the store that have “lean”, “healthy”, “reduced fat”, “light”, “sugar free”, etc in the name. They are all processed! Those 100 calorie snack packs are NO GOOD!

- Ground meats – Ground meats are especially processed. Definitely avoid ground beef… Google “pink slime” and you will know why.

- Canned foods – a lot of canned goods are processed in some way or have added ingredients that are not ideal. If you buy canned goods, be sure to rinse and strain thoroughly. Canned soups are definitely not a good option. Make your own! We like to make big batches so we can eat it through the week.

In the spirit of good health, here is the recipe we use. One of our Team D2R members Shari W. came up with the recipe and I made a couple small changes to work for me. These are gluten free recipes.

Homemade Protein Bars (Gluten Free Vegan and Non-Vegan Options)

Approx 2.25 cups chocolate protein powder (We use Sun Warrior Raw Vegan Chocolate Protein) You can make a non-vegan version by just using some high quality chocolate whey protein (We have liked BlueBonnet brand Whey Protein Isolate)* NOTE: YOU WILL PROBABLY NEED A DIFFERENT MEASUREMENT OF PROTEIN IF YOU DO NOT USE SUN WARRIOR. Just add more of the other protein to give the batch a thick dough consistency.

1 cup gluten free rolled oats

1/3 cup natural peanut butter

1/4 tsp cinnamon

3 Tbs 100% pure organic maple syrup

Approx 1.25 cups unsweetened almond milk*

3 Tbs Stevia in the Raw

Mix everything together into a thick dough and press with your hands into an 11×7 baking dish. Refrigerate for about an hour then cut into bars – makes 12 bars. I individually wrap them and store them in the fridge for a grab and go snack.

*You might need to add more almond milk or more protein powder if the bars are not the right consistency. They should be just slightly sticky, but more of a dough texture.

Vegan Homemade Protein Bars

The approximate stats based off making it with the Sun Warrior Protein:

Calories: 167

Fat: 5.3 grams

Carbohydrates: 14.4 grams (4.8 grams of sugar, 3.5 grams of fiber)

Protein: 18 grams

Homemade Protein Bars with Shakeology Health Boost (Gluten Free)

This is what we make most of the time

Approx 1.5 cups chocolate protein powder (We use Sun Warrior Raw Vegan Chocolate Protein) You can make a non-vegan version by just using some high quality chocolate whey protein (We have liked BlueBonnet brand Whey Protein Isolate)* NOTE: YOU WILL PROBABLY NEED A DIFFERENT MEASUREMENT OF PROTEIN IF YOU DO NOT USE SUN WARRIOR. Just add more of the other protein to give the batch a thick dough consistency.

The approximate stats based off making it with the Sun Warrior Protein:

Protein: 17.6 grams

I hope you enjoy these homemade protein bars! We really like them as they really help us stay on track when we need on the go snacks.

I am SO EXCITED about the newest addition to the Shakeology family! As of today, you can purchase Tropical Strawberry Shakeology! They made a couple changes to this formula and it is VEGAN! This means there are no animal products or by-products at all. This formulation is ideal for those that cannot tolerate whey protein, animal products, dairy, soy, or wheat / gluten. The biggest change is that they replaced the grade 7 whey protein isolates with the most advanced (and highest bio-availability) vegan protein available in the world. Shakeology Tropical now uses a blend of Plant Based proteins with the main protein being fermented sprouted brown rice protein. With the changes they made to this formula, they have created a new brand of nutrition called the “Beachbody Ultimate” brand. This brand will be placed on all the products that literally have PERFECT nutrition. There is more to come with this brand including a cleanse system that will be available in March!

Here is the Tropical Strawberry Shakeology Review :

A few other exciting changes

You’ll notice the new “Beachbody Ultimate” branding on this product. This means that the ingredients have THE HIGHEST bio-availability of any ingredients in the world! When you want THE BEST and don’t want to compromise, look for Beachbody Ultimate!

The Proprietary Plant-Based Protein Blend provides all 9 amino acids and is a smooth, creamy texture without the grittiness associated with vegan proteins. The proteins include:

Raw, sprouted, bio-fermented brown rice protein

Sacha Inchi

Chia

Flax

Quinoa

Amaranth

Spirulina

Shakeology Tropical is no longer sweetened with fructose.

The Tropical Strawberry flavor has a few more ingredients:

Konjac Root: Contains glucomannan, a soluble dietary fiber that absorbs 200 times its weight in water. What that does is slow down how quickly the stomach empties after a meal so you feel fuller longer. It also promotes satiety for reduced cravings.

Himalayan Salt: The stuff is completely natural, free from toxins, relatively untouched, and as a result, still contains more than 70 trace minerals. Himalayan salt actually helps to contribute to the sweetness of a product as well.

Luo Han Guo: This is a low-calorie, low glycemic fruit that lends complex sweetness to foods. It is traditionally used in Asia for medicinal purposes. It works as and antioxidant and help support the immune system. The low-glycemic nature of Luo Han guo helps maintain health blood sugar levels and aids in weight loss.

Coconut Flower Nectar: A naturally sweet, nutrient-rich nectar that comes from coconut blossoms. It contains amino acids, minerals, vitamin C, and a broad spectrum of B vitamins. This too is naturally low on the glycemic index which means that it will produce a slow energy release instead of a spike and crash in energy. This ingredients is also sustainably sourced.

SUMA root has been removed from this formula (this was a concern for some people because the ingredient causes false positives on athlete drug testing)

All Isolates have been removed from Tropical Strawberry. All the nutrients, vitamins and minerals come from WHOLE FOODS

Here are the nutritional facts of Tropical Strawberry Shakeology: Ingredients and Nutritional Information for Shakeology Tropical Strawberry Flavor Download PDF

Remember, ALL Shakeology flavors are Gluten free, caffeine free, SOY Free and NON-GMO (genetically modified organisms).

So what about the taste of Tropical Shakeology?

I have tried it and it is delicious! It’s a great alternative to Chocolate and Greenberry. If you are someone that just doesn’t like chocolate THIS would be the one I recommend. I have a feeling this flavor will become my new favorite! If you are serious about purchasing if you like the taste of the Tropical Strawberry Shakeology, then be sure to request a sample here: REQUEST YOUR TROPICAL STRAWBERRY SHAKEOLOGY SAMPLE

How much does Shakeology Tropical cost?

Because of the super premium brown-rice protein, the cost of Shakeology tropical is $129 per month (which is just over $4/day) compared to $120 for Chocolate/Greenberry Shakeology. Some people may think that’s expensive for a “supplement” but this is not a supplement, it is a meal replacement shake with more nutrition than you can get in any meal! It’s PURE NUTRITION. Since you are replacing food you are currently eating, you can cut back on groceries, eating out, coffee, energy drinks, etc and will probably save money. I was skeptical about price originally so I took advantage of the 30 day money back guarantee and tried it for 30 days. I realized I was actually saving money by not going out to eat for breakfast / lunch spending $8-12 per meal! Even if it wasn’t a savings for me, I would make sure I found a way to incorporate Shakeology in my nutrition. The health benefits are priceless! I no longer need Narcolepsy medication due to the natural energy I get from Shakeology and I feel SO much better when I drink it compared to when I don’t.

Does Tropical Strawberry Shakeology still have the 30 day money back guarantee?

Yes – all products from Beachbody are backed up by a 30 day money back guarantee. You can literally try it for 30 days and if you’re not happy with it, send the empty bag back for a full refund!

How can I be notified when it’s available?

It is available now! CLICK HERE to purchase!
