Key to Success: FAILING! - Chris Garrett Fitness | Dream-2-Reality | Team D2R

Key to Success: FAILING!

Failure.  We all hate it!  We hate to fail.  We much prefer success.  But guess what?  You can’t have success unless you make yourself vulnerable to failure.  Do you want success with your Power 90/ P90X / Insanity transformation?  You have to be willing to push yourself to the point of failure!  Do you want success with your job / relationships / etc.?  Then you have to go beyond your comfort zone and go all-in!  Sure, you risk failure, but the rewards are so worth it!

Did you know that most successful people have failed many times before becoming successful?  Success takes work, and if you let your fear of failure keep you from trying to succeed, guess where you’ll end up?

I have used this analogy before, but your health and fitness lifestyle change is like riding a bike without training wheels the first time.  Chances are you will fall down multiple times.  DO you give up? NO!!  You keep dusting yourself off and you try again.  Eventually you learn to do it and it becomes second nature.  Did we fail on our nutrition during our transformation… YES!  How did we still get great results?  We would not give up.  When we made a bad choice in food we didn’t give up and say “well we blew the diet anyway… might as well go all out”.. NO!  We would actually feel guilty about it and we would try that much harder.  As some of you know we fell off our workouts early on in P90X.  That was the longest time we had fallen off.  At that point it had already become part of our lifestyle to eat healthy, so fortunately we didn’t gain weight back, but we went backwards in our fitness abilities.  That failure hurt.    We let “life” get in the way, but exercise needs to be a part of your life and as coaches we needed to set a good example so we jumped back on even more committed than we ever had been.  Life is full of failures.  It is  about what we do to improve ourselves so we do not make the same failure again. THAT is what defines us and makes us the most successful.  The same thing applies to us as Christians.  Do we give up when we fail (sin)?  No way!  We learn from our mistakes and ultimately it makes our relationship with God even stronger.  God doesn’t give up on us either!  No matter how many times we have fallen on our faces he is always there to help us get up.

Are you ready to step outside your comfort zone, risk the potential to fail, and go for it?  Do it!  Make no excuses!  Commit 100%.  P90 / P90X / Insanity will help you SUCCEED!

The same can be said for the actual workouts.  They key to maximizing the workouts and getting the most transformation is to push yourself to the point of failure.  If I were to go through all exercises without failing, my muscles wouldn’t be forced to respond.  But I intentionally use weights that I either barely get 8-10 reps, or I fail trying…that failure is what gets me the change I’m after.

Are you getting to the end of a P90X lift workout without your arms feeling like they are about to fall off?  Are you getting to the end of an Insanity workout without feeling like you need to collapse in a pool of your own sweat?  Then you might consider pushing yourself closer to your point of failure.  It will lead to greater success!

Very inspiring, Chris! I'm an all or nothing kind of person, so when I "fail" I usually tend to give up since I let myself down. Your article above is very encouraging. I really want to be in shape and not be embarrassed to go to the pool with friends anymore. I want abs... for the first time in my life. I'll be 32 this year and this is my focus. Thanks to you and your lovely wife for the inspiration!

I was gonna ask you guys about this very thing. It is reassuring to know that even you guys struggled. That it takes effort to the point of failure to make a difference. I will keep this in the back of my mind next time I am doing Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred and my arms are about to fall off or I think my legs are going to give out. THAT'S THE POINT! That is what I WANT in a workout! :) So next time I fall on my face when doing pushups I'll get back up & keep going till I can't do anymore!
