Extreme Health!

We are about to start a 30 Day Clean Eating Challenge on Facebook which means we can only eat off the top 2 tiers of Michi’s ladder.  I, however, am going to take it a step further and go caffeine,wheat, gluten, and yeast free and will be cutting my dairy down to only whey protein isolate and non-fat greek yogurt.  It is safe to say I will stay in the top tier with the occasional chicken from tier 2.  I will not eat any protein bars and I will stick with organic fruits and vegetables.  I am also adding more superfoods to my diet!  I am always looking for ways to improve my health even more so I am going a little more extreme… just to see how it makes me feel.  I already feel amazing, but if I can feel even better yet… I will take it! :).  You are probably wanting to know what I am going to do for carbs since I am going gluten free and yeast free… here are a few items I will be eating:

I am also removing any supplements that are not all natural.  I don’t want any chemicals in my body whatsoever.  Would I be able to see better results for mass building by taking some of these supplements with chemicals… quite possibly, but I am more concerned with health over looks and glamour.  Here is a list of my current and new supplements:

SHAKEOLOGY – I have been drinking Shakeology for 8 months now and it has changed my life!  My energy levels from this are amazing and it has helped me with cravings, improved digestion, and feeling great!  I will NEVER stop drinking this meal replacement.  Packed with over 70 nutritious ingredients, it covers a lot of bases for nutrition needs and is full of SUPERFOODS!

Shakeology Health Benefits include:

  • Reduced total cholesterol and bad cholesterol level
  • Reduced oxidative stress, which is a major risk for degenerative diseases
  • Reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases
  • Reduced body toxins
  • Improved digestion
  • Higher energy levels
  • Increased weight loss
  • Overall health and vigour

PRE-WORKOUT SUPPLEMENT – About 30 minutes before I workout I have a very small bowl of oatmeal & mix it with Raw Maca Root (powder), Raw Chia Seeds & water.  These superfoods are also in Shakeology.  Maca for stamina & energy.  Chia for strength.

RAW MACA ROOT POWDER – This Incan superfood is one of the ingredients in Shakeology.  I bought the Navitas brand from Amazon.

Maca Root Health Benefits include:

  • Maca root is an adaptogenic herb, from South America. Some benefits of maca root are that it’s reputed to boost energy levels, improve stamina, promote a clear mental focus and restore optimum hormone balance.
  • Benefits of maca root for bodybuilders, athletes and active people:
  • Maca is a powerful aphrodisiac that will likely improve your sex drive and performance;
  • Maca improves glucose tolerance, which should aid both fat loss and muscle gain, not to mention reducing your risk of developing diabetes;
  • If you have arthritis or joint pains maca could ease your symptoms;
  • Maca could improve your workout performance, and possibly increase stamina and strength levels;
  • Maca raises your Testosterone levels by controlling excess Estrogen;
  • Maca ramps up metabolism making fat loss easier and faster;
  • Maca eliminates hormonal problems in women and leads to higher fertility rates.

RAW CHIA SEEDS – This is another superfood found in Shakeology.  Chia seeds are coined as the Aztec running food.  The Aztecs would eat a handful of this and go on a day’s run!  Chia seeds enhance stamina, endurance and help you stay hydrated. The seeds help you lose weight for 2 reasons. 1st, they are so filling that you will eat less. 2nd, they form into a gel and cleanse the old “junk” in your intestines. Lastly, they provide calcium & protein in your tissues & help regenerate body tissue.  The Chia seed is revered for its highly nutritious properties, such as being rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids, which help protect against inflammation and heart disease.  I bought the Navitas brand from Amazon.

SPIRULINA – a type of blue-green algae that is rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and carotenoids (a type of antioxidant that can help protect cells from damage). It contains nutrients, including B complex vitamins, beta-carotene, vitamin E, manganese, zinc, copper, iron, selenium, and gamma linolenic acid (an essential fatty acid).

Spirulina health benefits include:

  • Boost the Immune System
  • Improve Digestion
  • Reduce fatigue
  • Build Endurance
  • Nature’s Detoxifier – Cleanse the body
  • Boost Energy Levels
  • Control Appetite
  • Maintain Healthy Cardiovascular function
  • Support the Liver and Kidneys
  • Reduce Inflammation
  • Benefit People Who Suffer from Allergies

CHLORELLA – a single-cell plant known for its high content of protein, vitamins, and minerals. This all natural whole food is the most researched on the planet due to a wide array of health benefits associated with it.  This is best taken along with Spirulina

  • Remove heavy metals from your body, leaving you clean and free of contaminants.
  • Lower your risk of cancer with powerful antioxidants, including chlorophyll and beta carotene.
  • Fortify your body with 19 amino acids and 20 vitamins and minerals.

POST-WORKOUT RECOVERY – This one is tough… I am still torn on what I want to do with this.  Beachbody re-formulated the P90X Results and Recovery Formula and took out all the artificial ingredients so it is a great product and it works great, but I am going extreme on my health right now so I am going to stick with something even more natural.  I think I am going to drink coconut water as a recovery and see how it goes.  If I am not getting the recovery I need, then I may go back to the Results and Recovery formula.  I will also be having my Shakeology after my workout so that will help aid me in my recovery.

COCONUT WATER –  Coconut water’s electrolyte (aid in a number of vital bodily processes) content is very similar to human plasma, and therefore making it a fantastic sports drink, giving you oral re hydration.  This is a far better sports drink then the commercial one’s available.  It is rich in minerals such as; sodium, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper phosphorus, potassium, proteins, vitamins C and B, glucose (a type of sugar found in the blood),  contains no fat, and despite its sweet taste it has no sugar.

WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE – I am currently using Bluebonnet 100% natural Whey Protein Isolate.  This is a very high protein content per calorie serving which makes it a great option.  Whey Protein Isolate is more pure than Whey Protein Concentrate.  Unlike the common practice of using a heat-processed whey protein isolate that can denature (render useless) the protein and immunoglobulins, Bluebonnet employs a special low-temperature method, which leaves the protein and immunoglobulins intact.  There are no fillers or artificial ingredients in this protein which makes it a very good choice.  I bought this on Amazon as well.

My goal with this program is to get lean and shred the extra fat that I have. Thank you for doing research that did help :)

I became a vegetarian about 4 months ago and am loving it. I too have been trying to stay away from processed foods, cutting back on dairy, as well as buying organic anytime I can. I guess one of my questions is what would be a good way for me to get enough protein while doing the fat shredder stage of p90x? I do use a vegetarian protein shake but am also looking for other options. I have used shakeology before but just cannot afford at this time. Also if I am eating about 1800 calories a day about how much protein should I be eating. Thank you very much

hey chris! do you drink coconut water during your workouts? i use to drink intrabolic and i love it but i want something more natural so i was wondering if coconut water would benefit me the same way

hey chris what is the benefit of removing the greek yogurt and cutting dairy down out of your diet?

Hi Chris, I don't think we've met yet although we are both on the same team. I just wanted to comment on your post that I applaud your decision to go all natural, which is something I am working on right now. The biggest challenge has been giving up protein bars and dairy (I have to thank Shaun T for his Asylum Diet Guidelines). It's tough, man and protein intake became more challenging, but I'm all in for health versus size at this stage in my life. By the way, I am a HUGE fan of coconut milk and have been using it for a while. I grew up in the tropics where coconut water is used instead of pedialyte. Leo

Has removing certain foods lowered your calorie intake? Because switching to semi - paleo diet for me has made it extremely tough to consume anymore than 1400 calories.

thanks chris! will you be posting a new diet plan anytime soon? id be real interested in seeing it.

That purity bread looks tasty. Have you tried it yet? How's it taste?

At first it was tough but i no longer miss the greek yogurt :) ya, i am familiar with that company and have always wanted to order from their. Which brand of coconut water are you using? and for your protein powder, are you taking this late at night too? as you would your casein shake

Nice Chris! I have been on the paleo diet for a week and I feel great! Similar to what your doing. I did although give up fage Greek yogurt which makes keeping my protein intake hard to do since I also gave up pure protein bars. I did not give up the recovery drink but after hearing about the coconut water I might follow your footsteps! :)
